Philadelphia Charter School Standard Application

The Philadelphia Charter School Standard Application for the 2018-19 school year is now available! Click here to download a copy!

**NOTE: the terms "Standard Application," "Standard App," and "application form" are used interchangeably below.

ABOUT THE PHILADELPHIA CHARTER SCHOOL STANDARD APPLICATION

In order to attend most Philadelphia public charter schools, interested students must submit an application or an Intent to Register form to the schools in which they would like to apply. Many charter schools have agreed to make this process simpler by also accepting the Philadelphia Charter School Standard Application ("Standard App"). This is a standard application form available in English, Spanish, Russian, Mandarin, French, Arabic, and Vietnamese. The Standard App allows you to fill out the same form and submit it to as many charter schools as you’d like.

Over 80 charter schools have agreed to accept this application for the fall 2018 enrollment, including some of the largest charter management operators. The list of schools participating in this year's Standard Application can be found below.

APPLICATION DEADLINES

Each charter school sets its own application deadline. In an effort to make the application process simplier for families, many charter schools have agreed to one of the two standard deadlines: January 31, 2018 OR March 1, 2018. See below for a list of deadlines.

NOTE: Neighborhood charter schools enroll students residing within that school’s particular geographic boundaries until they reach capacity. These schools have been marked with an asterisk* on the list of participating schools.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: How do I complete the Standard App?

A: You may type your responses directly in the Standard App or write your responses by hand. Make sure to answer all required questions in order to be considered for enrollment to a school.

Q: Where do I send the Standard App once it is complete?

A: Once you complete the Standard App, you will need to send it to each charter school you wish to attend (listed on Section B). Charter schools will accept completed applications in a variety of ways, including email, fax, and in person. The table below outlines how you can submit completed forms to each charter school.

**NOTE: If you wish to apply to more than one charter school, you must fill out one application for each school.

**TIP: Ask the school for written confirmation of your application once you submit the form.

Q: Do I need to submit any other documents with the Standard App?

A: You do not need to submit any other documents with the Standard App.

If your student is selected, the charter school will contact you and provide enrollment information. You will also need to provide proof of residency at your local address (except when a student is homeless and/or awaiting foster care placement).

Q: Can I use this form to apply to district neighborhood, citywide admission, or special admit schools?

A: No. You may only use this application to apply to participating charter schools (see list below). Read this article for information about applying to district neighborhood, citywide, and special admit schools.

Q: What does “neighborhood school” mean?

A: Any charter school that is listed as a "neighborhood school" accepts all students who live in that school’s neighborhood boundaries until they reach capacity. Information about a charter school’s neighborhood boundaries can be found online at bit.ly/SDPSchoolFinder or by contacting the Charter Schools Office at 215-400-4090.

Q: What happens once I submit the Standard App to the charter school(s)?

A: Students will be entered into a lottery if a school receives more applications than there are available spaces. The charter school will contact you directly if your student is selected.

**TIP: Ask the school for written confirmation of your application once you submit the application form.

Q: What happens if and when my student is selected in the lottery?

A: If your child is selected in the lottery, the charter school will contact you directly and provide instructions about how to enroll your student. Make sure your contact information is correct on the application form! Reach out to charter schools directly if your phone number, address, or email address changes after you submit the application form. See below for information about enrolling students in a charter school.

Except when a child is homeless and/or awaiting foster care placement, a charter school WILL require proof of residency in order to enroll a student. This can include one or more of the following: deed, lease, current utility bill, current credit card, property tax statement, driver’s license, or vehicle registration.

Q: Who can enroll a student?

A: Enrollment must be completed by a parent, foster parent, caseworker, caregiver with whom the child resides, or any other person with “charge or control” of the student. A student may enroll him or herself if they are an emancipated minor or an unaccompanied homeless youth.
