Philadelphia Hebrew Public Charter School's mission is to inspire and prepare its diverse student body for advanced studies through a rigorous K-8 curriculum, instruction in Modern Hebrew, and the integration of global citizenship competencies.

Philadelphia Hebrew Public Charter School serves as a model of how meaningful integration in public schools can boost academic outcomes and positively develop student skills and values. Students will emerge as highly educated, globally aware, ethical citizens who are prepared with a foundation for success in high school, college, the workplace, and society.

Our school is part of a growing movement of linguistically diverse public charter schools, teaching languages as varied as Modern Hebrew, Greek, Mandarin, French, and Arabic. This movement is based in part on a wide body of research showing the many benefits of learning a foreign language:

At PHP, Modern Hebrew is taught through the proficiency-based approach, which is considered the gold standard in foreign language instruction in the United States and around the world. Students receive one hour of Hebrew language instruction four days per week. They engage in meaningful interactions in the language, developing their speaking and comprehension skills at a rapid pace. As students advance through the grade levels, speaking and listening skills continue to be developed and reading and writing are introduced, developed and strengthened.

Admissions Policy

Philadelphia Hebrew Public is a tuition-free public charter school open to any student who is a resident of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Philadelphia Hebrew Public will serve all students, regardless of level of need, and provide the continuum of Special Education services and related services as required in an IEP or 504 plan or for an English Language Learner. All students entering Kindergarten must be five years old by September 1, 2021. All students entering 1st grade must be six years old by September 1, 2021. Student preferences include:

• Students who are residents in Philadelphia are given first preference.
• The child(ren) of a current employee or original founding member of Charter School is exempted from the lottery process if there is space in the grade sought.
• Siblings (defined as children having one common parent) of students enrolled at Charter School from the prior school year are exempted from the lottery provided there is space available for the grade sought. Siblings must be Philadelphia residents to be eligible for this preference. A sibling lottery will be held if there are more siblings than seats available in any grade.
