We are one of the most culturally and linguistically diverse schools in the District. The Kirkbride School was recognized as a Peer Leader for Overall Performance in 2017-18 by the School District of Philadelphia's School Progress Reports, for the third year in a row. Teachers engage in collaborative inquiry groups to advance teaching and learning. We maintain a positive and family-oriented school climate. Our students have been recognized in citywide art and writing competitions, and we host monthly celebrations for our students to recognize outstanding achievement. Our Friends of Kirkbride group is active in supporting our school and teachers through community efforts aligned with our school's priorities. We have established several community partnerships to support academic achievement with organizations such as Playworks, Sunrise of Philadelphia and SEAMACC. We have been awarded Picasso Project grants and partnered with COSACOSA Art at Large, Inc., to bring cross-curricular arts programming to our students. We also lead a partnership with Fleisher Art Memorial. Our elementary and middle school students participate in Science Olympiad, and we participate in the University of Pennsylvania robotics STEM program, First Lego League. Our early elementary students participate in a science club with our partnership with the Schuylkill Center. Several of our classrooms participate in Need in Deed service learning projects, and we host a school-wide Jr. Flower Show hosted by the Horticultural Society. Additionally, we have several university partnerships with local universities such as Swarthmore College, West Chester University, Temple and Villanova to support instructional and social experiential initiatives for students and staff. We support parents through Academic Parent Teacher Teams (K-3) and participate with Children's Literacy Initiative. We are a neighborhood school committed to serving a diverse community and celebrating the cultures and heritages of our students and their families. We celebrate learning throughout our classrooms, community and cultures.
