Freire Charter School guarantees a safe environment, proactive in peer mediation to resolve disputes before they escalate. All incoming students are oriented in the school's culture of respect, including training in conflict resolution and anger management. Students learn real-world skills like how to responsibly engage in a dialogue with their peers to settle arguments in a constructive manner. There are no metal detectors or police present in our school. Each morning a staff member welcomes students as they enter the learning environment. Freire students are engaged in an ongoing dialogue about their school's nonviolence policies, including in-class discussions that extend to broader issues such as bullying and gun violence.
