For the past two years, The Mathematics, Civics and Sciences Charter School has had the highest graduation and college placement rate of all peer schools, charter schools and district schools in the city of Philadelphia. MCSCS has a 100% graduation rate and a zero dropout rate in the 14 years since our first graduating class in 2003. Every year, 97% to 98% of our graduates attend college and 2% to 3% go on to vocational training. The School District of Philadelphia classified MCSCS in the model performance tier in college and career and climate. More than $1 million in scholarships were awarded to graduates in additional to their free application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). For three consecutive years a MCSCS graduate was one of 1,000 selected out of 20,500 applicants to receive the Bill Gates Millennium Award, which pays for 10 years of college to any school of choice. MCSCS students feed 500 homeless citizens in Philadelphia each week. Students from 1st through 12th grade and staff raise $800 to $1,000 a week to fund the Homeless Project. Students volunteer to donate $1 per week. The donated money is used to supply more than 100 toiletry bags filled with soap, washcloths, toothpaste, toothbrushes and deodorant. The Homeless Project was started in 2005 and supports the civics portion of the school's curriculum. The MCSCS choir provides inspiration through its music throughout the Philadelphia region. The MCSCS boys' varsity basketball team won the PIAA Class A State Championship in 2011. The team also won Division E for three consecutive years. The team advanced to the 2014 PIAA Class A state championship game. They are the 2014 and 2016 Class A State Runner-Up, and the 2012, 2013 and 2015 PIAA State Semi-Finalist.
